The Ashiyana Retreat
Centre is on Mandrem Beach. Most of the accommodation is in
a palm grove fronting the Mandrem River and faces towards the
sea, which can be viewed from the upper-floor balconies of all
of the eco-lodges.
Many of the rooms have been built of wood, reminiscent of
Indonesia or Thailand, though finishing touches are borrowed
from classical Indian design.
Beach Huts
The huts are separated from the beach by a sand dune and are
next to the beautiful Mandrem River. Made from traditional bamboo
and chatai, they are spacious, simple and pretty. There are
shared bathrooms in between each pair of huts (1/hut).
Adobe Round House
This is a pretty little round house hidden beneath the coconut
palms overlooking the lilly pond. It has a double bed and en-suite
bathroom. It is ideal for a couple or for single occupancy.
Eco-Lodges
There are three two-storey eco-lodges sleeping two upstairs
and two downstairs with en-suite bathrooms at the rear and spacious
balcony with day bed and magnificent views of the palm grove
at the front. These have a distinctly "Indonesian"
feel with beautiful silk drapes.
Oval House
This offers a unique combination of stone structure with palm
roof which makes for a very airy and light space. There is one
large built-in double bed and a second large single bed. The
room has en-suite bathroom and a small, private garden area.
Long cabana
A long cabana with one large double bed, one single bed and
a spacious en-suite bathroom. This is sited close to the yoga
platform which can viewed from the balcony, and has a wonderful
high ceiling.
Well Tree-house
The Well tree-house is sited at the rear of the land and has
a balcony with spectacular views of the hills and fields behind
us. It is designed to sleep two sharing or one in secluded
luxury, since it has an enormous double bed (and second single
bed) and a beautiful wooden bathroom!
Lake House
A two-storey stone "Lake-house" with accommodation
comprising of three large double bed areas on each of the
two floors. These rooms are very spacious, with two en-suite
bathrooms at the rear of each floor, and overlook a lilly
pond. Both of these rooms are very comfortable for three to
four sharing or luxurious for two! The Lake House is joined
to the Well Tree-house at the upper level by way of a wooden
walk-way which offers a galleried-view of the rear of Ashiyana.
Mango Tree-house
The Mango Tree-house is perched 3.5m in the air between palms
and sits just beneath two old mango trees away from the main
retreat centre. The front balcony looks through the foliage
of the mango trees, and the wooden bathroom at the rear is
semi-open offering stunning views of the river and surrounding
trees and countryside. The tree-house comfortably holds two
people in romantic luxury!
